OUGD404 - Study Task 2 - Folded Books - The Trouser Fold Book

The book is folded into 16 rectangles so I decided the page up exactly into 16.

I then added the page numbers with the corresponding angles in which they go once the book would be folding as well as red lines where the page should be cut.

Then I could just add my step by step guide of how to make the booklet.

I created some simple illustrations which I think makes the process a lot clearer than with just text. Especially with this booklet as it can be quite confusing to make. After doing a test print it worked perfectly! I plan to make an a4 and a3 version of the booklet to increase the legibility as the amount of pages make the book very small on a4. I also want to make a cover to the book, using a thicker stock so that the book won't unfold when it is being read.

In the end it printed really well. I did a couple of test prints and the only issue I had was that it would scale the size of the document down slightly when printing to not cut off any of the text, so it displaced the pages a bit. But I am really pleased with the final look of it, I especially love the blue cover.

The book with out the cover. I can see why it is also known as a maze fold book now.

OUGD405 - End of Module Evaluation

Throughout this short module I think I have had 100% attendance and I have tried to stay in the studio as much as possible. I feel that if I stay in the studio I become more inspired by my peers and also if anyone needs help I can help them or vice versa if I get stuck on something. Though this module seems like we have not had much time, I am really pleased with what I have produced. It has proved to me that anything is possible if you crack on and put your heart into it. And now I can see myself developing my own style of graphic design, one that includes illustrations and hand rendered type. But I would like to try and broaden my horizons a bit more and create more contemporary minimalist designs as it is not something that I have tackled before.

Also without feedback I probably would have gotten no where – I am so grateful for the time people give to give me feedback so I always try and give everyone feedback for their work in return. With the workshops we have had in this module I have learned a couple of new things and I can now say that I can use InDesign quite well considering I had never used it before starting this course.  I feel that I have learnt a lot in this module in terms of thinking about tone of voice and target audiences, especially when creating my frame designs. I feel like I went for the wrong tone of voice and made my designs too elaborate, I would definitely come up with some simpler designs if I could do that brief again.

The workload did feel a bit bigger this module but I think that it was just due to a shortened time period, although I did manage to complete my designs by the Friday before the deadline.

However, if I was given the chance to repeat this module I would probably make a more specific plan rather than planning general things like “initial ideas” and “research”. Then I think I may have got more accomplished within the time that we had.

OUGD405 - Studio Brief 4 - Final Packaging Designs

These are the images of my final printed boxes and labels. I used an off white stock to represent a more traditional packaging rather than having it bright white. The stock also gave a nice texture to the boxes and broke up the solidness of the bold colours making them seem more pastel which I really like.

I also mocked up some mug designs that could be sold along side the syrup, but due to a lack of time I couldn't develop them as much as I wanted to.

OUGD405 - Studio Brief 3 - Final Printed Booklet

When going to print in the print room I had a bit of a palaver. I had completely forgotten that the pages had to be a multiple of 4 and I had created 22 pages. So I spent some time re-jigging the layout to account for a multiple of 4. I ended up adding 2 more pages and creating one of my illustrations into a double page spread. However I found that this worked really well as if to end the book with you pouring yourself a cup of tea.
